The Ghorepani and Poon Hill trek is one of the most popular and pleasant treks in the Annapurna Region and all of Nepal. It gives a real experience and most of the benefits of trekking with a relatively short itinerary that takes less time than most other Himalayan journeys. Enjoy astonishing village scenery with cultural and natural attractions including views of the big mountains along the way. This trek is a great introduction to Nepaland especially appealing to people who are not available for more remote journeys.

Our Secrets of the Himalaya schedule on this trek is more relaxed compared to other  options in the Annapurna Region. We enjoy the surroundings and meet people living along the trek route. From hill top viewpoints, marvelous panoramas showcase the snowy Himalaya. Especially close and vibrant will be Machhapuchhre (twin-peaked Fishtail Mountain) and the Annapurna Range.

The journey starts with a brief drive from the tourist destination of Pokhara, a vibrant city alongside the peaceful waters of Phewa Lake. The trekking pathways wend through jungle landscape with scenic villages surrounded by terraced fields.

Our destination is Ghorepani, a settlement on a ridge top in the forest. Nearby is the famous viewpoint known as Poon Hill where people gather as sunrise lights up the surrounding  peaks. Poon Hill is a main highlight of this trek for the outstanding panorama. Eventually, we return from Ghorepani through areas populated by the Gurung ethnicity, famous as soldiers in the Gurkha regiments. Traveling through lush areas, we arrive back at the vehicle road for a pleasant return drive to Pokhara.

This is an all-season trek and Secrets of the Himalaya has regular departures year-round. We can customize the journey according to your preferences with additional options in and around the Annapurna area. Please find more information about this fascinating area in the following article by Secrets of the Himalaya founder, Alonzo Lyons, in Nepal's leading cultural magazine, ECS NepalRebirth of the Annapurna Circuit
