This journey offers the best of two adventures in one, a safari through dense jungles followed by a fascinating trek to one of Nepal's best viewpoints of the towering, snowy Himalayan peaks.

We begin with a visit to world-famous Chitwan National Park and a safari there. Chitwan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site full of rare plant and animal wildlife and scenic jungle landscapes. Then, we move on and up to the climax of Safari and Peaks -- Mohare Danda, a ridge top in the Annapurna region, featuring arguably one of the best panoramas of the Himalaya. Here you can enjoy a jawdropping vista of a broad array of snow-clad peaks spiraling into the skies.

Of course, Nepal is famous for its skycraping mountains. That said, we came up with this tour because a visit to this extraordinary land might be considered incomplete without experiencing the lush jungle splendor of the plains. Chitwan National Park was declared a World Heritage Site (Natural) in 1984. It was established to protect endangered animals and their natural habitat. Chitwan is a premier place in Asia to enjoy a genuine safari experience by foot, canoe, jeep and even elephant back like royalty of yore. The park's jungles are home to tigers, rhinos, leopards, wild elephants, sloth bears, monkeys, crocodiles, and several species of deer. The park also hosts over 480 bird species, more than any of Nepal’s other national parks and conservation areas.

At Chitwan for a safari, you can take in the soothing natural surroundings from our resort on the fringes of the park's boundaries. Jungle activities are a step away with day-trip excursion options into the heart of the jungle and a thrilling chance to encounter exotic wildlife in their own environment. Independent trekking or hiking is not possible in Chitwan. Jag is our local expert with years of experience there. In fact, he has been a naturalist and guide in Chitwan, his home territory, for nearly twenty years, and has probably seen more tigers in the wild than anyone on the planet!

Depending on your style, we offer several modes of travel for experiencing this riveting landscape, each providing a different perspective -- jeep safari, elephant back safari, canoe tours and even the thrill of going about on foot is an option with seasoned naturalist Jag expertly leading the way.

The next phase of this two part journey is a pleasant trek through scenic villages to the top of one of the most astonishing viewpoints in Nepal, Mohare Danda (3245 m, 10,646 ft) . After a picturesque drive from Chitwan with a stopover in the tourist paradise of Pokhara, we make a trek to Mohare Ridge that passes through fascinating landscape. The trek itinerary takes less time than most other treks while offering all the benefits and more because it is off the main pathways. Enjoy astonishing village scenery with cultural and natural attractions at every step of the trek.

From the ridge top of Mohare Danda, the highest point of the journey at 3245 m or 10,646 ft, the marvelous panorama showcases the soaring, snow-dressed Himalayan titans. Especially close and vibrant will be Machhapuchhre (twin-peaked Fishtail Mountain, 6,997 m, 22,956 ft), considered sacred and therefore off limits to climbing. Peaks of the Annapurna Range are visible, too. To the west is Dhaulagiri is 8167 m (26,794 ft), ranked as the seventh highest peak in the world, and Dhaulagiri holds the honor of being the tallest mountain entirely within Nepal’s borders. Please find more information about this fascinating area in the following article by Secrets of the Himalaya founder, Alonzo Lyons, in Nepal's leading cultural magazine, ECS NepalRebirth of the Annapurna Circuit

The splendid views are highlighted by riveting sunrises and sunsets that will take your breath away. As the skyline lights up, the snowy peaks on the horizon and skies above them are drenched in radiant colors. Even Pokhara's Phewa Lake can be seen shimmering in the distance as Mohare Danda offers a commanding view back to the jungle plains of Chitwan where we recently were on safari.

This package is a wonderful introduction to the best that Nepal has to offer.  It is an all-season package and Secrets of the Himalaya has departures year-round. We are happy to customize the Safari and Peaks journey to accomodate your style and preferences with other options in and around Chitwan and the Annapurna region and all points in between.
